THE RECONSTRUCTION OF ISLAMIC THOUGHT IN THE TWENTIETH CENTURY AND BEDIUZZAMAN SAID NURSI  

Professor Cânan was bom in 1940 in Küçük Karapınar in Konya Province, where he received his primary education. He graduated from Konya Boys' High School in 1958. He taught in Kayseri Secondary School from 1962-4, and Akşehir Secondary School, 1966-7. In 1972, he began to teach in the Faculty of Islamic Sciences in Atatürk University, then continued in the Theology Faculty of the same university. Professor Cânan has recently been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Theology in Harran University, Urfa. In addition to his former Faculty Journal, Professor Cânan has published articles in magazines such as Diyanet, Hakses, İslam, İslam Medeniyeti, Zafer, İcmal, Kadın ve Aile, Altınoluk, and Okul. He won the Prize of the Turkish National Culture Foundation in 1979 with a work entitlfed, Resulullah'a Göre Okul ve Ailede Çocuk Terbiyesi (Childrens' Education at School and in the Home According to the Prophet Muhammed).
