Abstract
This paper is to study the approach used by Bediüzzaman Said Nursi (1877- 1960) in the discourse on Islamic morality, and to ascertain his lively scriptural approach to the moral values, in which it makes one’s life meaningful and purposeful. Bediuzzaman’s primary purpose of writing Rasail al-Nur is to strengthen faith of ordinary believers along with moral renewal and refinement, therefore this paper discusses the background, the reason and the purpose behind Imam Bediuzzaman’s approach which interrelates with the subject of Moral Education. Based on the findings, the study demonstrates; first, Bediuzzaman’s work is situated within the context of Tauhid (Divine Unity) framework, which constitutes the background of his entire system of thought, second; it is noted down that his writing is not the result of a merely intellectual enterprise, but also the living answers to problems he has personally experienced, and the third one, is that based on Qur’anic and Prophetic approach, he has developed guidelines for appropriate, good and correct behavior of individuals in particular, which leads to ethical harmony of society in general. Finally, Said Nursi builds his Concept of Moral Education on three main principles are: The Principle of al Fitra (Primordial Nature of Things), The Principle of Exemplary and The Principle of Qur’anic Morality.
