Abstract
This study will discuss the role of critical and creative thinking in preparing students to respond to the challenges that threaten our societies and the globe as a whole. As we have been living in an ever interconnected and changing globalized world, an ideal education must address problems such as global warming, international terrorism, migration, pandemic diseases, poverty, and injustices, which are jeopardizing the security of the global community. If we want today’s students to come with new solutions and alternatives to solve these challenges, we must prepare them with the ability to open their minds and sharpen thinking. It will suggest that in the classical Muslim legacy, it was not difficult to see the flames and spirit of critical thinking kindled by the very teachings of the Qur'an and Sunnah of the Prophet.
This paper, therefore, will attempt to define concepts creative and critical thinking first and then delineate the major features of critical and creative thinking in the Qur’anic weltanschauung and provide some examples from Islamic philosophy.
